A mother struggling with a low reproductive rate shocked and delighted staff at a Chinese zoo when she gave birth to three cubs after multiple miscarriages.
That’s right, the birth of rare panda triplets at the Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou is being called a miracle, as they have been the only newborns to have ever survived birth at the park. The mortality rate of young pandas is extremely high and they often don’t survive until six months.
The giant panda mother, Juxiao, gave birth to the cubs on July 29, 2014, and they have been treated in an incubator before returning to their mother’s side. All three panda babies are said to be doing great by the park’s staff. Their sex has yet to be determined and they have not yet been named.
